The City of Ottawa's Transportation Master Plan contains a list of transportation infrastructure projects, including new sidewalks, that the City intends to construct over the coming years. This list of projects was created and prioritized based on public consultation, Councillor input and a city-wide network review. Sidewalks along Brant Street and Clarke Avenue were approved as phase 1 projects in the plan.

The provision of sidewalks in these locations aligns with the City’s transportation goals to maximize walkability and to create safe, inviting pedestrian environments for all ages and abilities.

    • To minimize impacts to trees, the existing road width ranging from 8.5 to 8.7 metres wide will be narrowed to 6.5 metres. Narrowing the road will also reduce impacts to properties and driveway lengths.

    • On-street parking will be permitted on one side of the street where the road is narrowed. Parking will be permitted on the west side of the road because it offers more space for on-street parking as there are fewer driveways.

    • Pedestrian crossing improvements include crosswalks on Brant Street at Spartan Avenue, Fullerton Avenue and Donald Street.

    • Streetlighting improvements are being examined.
