Brant Street
Local Context
Brant Street is a local road with a posted speed limit of 30 km/h.
There is an existing sidewalk on the east side of Brant Street that spans from McArthur Avenue to approximately 40 m north of Spartan Avenue
Brant Street is an important link between McArthur Avenue and Donald Street.
Design Features
The following pedestrian improvements are proposed as part of this project:
New 2 metre wide sidewalk on the east side of Brant Street to tie into the existing sidewalks on Brant Street north of Spartan Avenue and on Donald Street.
To minimize impacts to trees, the existing road width ranging from 8.5 to 8.7 metres wide will be narrowed to 6.5 metres. Narrowing the road will also reduce impacts to properties and driveway lengths.
On-street parking will be permitted on one side of the street where the road is narrowed. Parking will be permitted on the west side of the road because it offers more space for on-street parking as there are fewer driveways.
Pedestrian crossing improvements include crosswalks on Brant Street at Spartan Avenue, Fullerton Avenue and Donald Street.
Streetlighting improvements are being examined.
