Defund the police

1) Too much power is given to police. I have personally witnessed incidents of racism where Ottawa police have shouted at, targeted and belittled people of colour. To ignore these issues is to actively contribute to Canada’s ongoing, systemic colonial violence.

2) The police do not have a deep understanding of social issues. They are not trained to improve the quality of our lives. Police money should be allocated to community-driven organizations (for anti-racism resources, LGBTQ+ support, mental and physical health support, youth and family support, to name a few).
