The City of Ottawa is seeking input on concept plans prepared for the renewal of the tennis courts and the addition of new basketball courts at Mooney&rsquo;s Bay Park.New Basketball Courts Development The new double basketball courts will be located south of the existing tennis and pickleball courts and positioned to maintain a 12-foot-wide groomed cross-country ski trail between the courts and Riverside Drive. The project scope includes:<ul type="disc"><li>Construction of a double basketball court with an asphalt surface.</li><li>Installation of basketball posts, hoops, and backboards as per City standards.</li><li>Fencing to prevent basketballs from travelling onto the adjacent multi-use pathway.</li><li>Lighting poles and luminaires compliant with City and NCC requirements (full cut-off and timed lighting).</li><li>Approximately four benches, including accessible seating areas.</li><li>An accessible asphalt pathway connection to the existing multi-use pathway.</li></ul>Tennis Courts Redevelopment This project involves the lifecycle replacement of the Mooney&rsquo;s Bay Park tennis courts. Planned improvements include:<ul type="disc"><li>Replacement of the asphalt surface for two tennis courts.</li><li>Removal and reinstatement of fencing around the courts, maintaining the current layout.</li><li>Extension of asphalt surfacing by one metre beyond the fence line to support positive drainage.</li><li>Accessible pathway connection from the existing multi-use pathway to the courts.</li><li>Replacement of four light poles with new concrete poles and LED lighting fixtures.</li><li>Installation of one accessible bench on each side of the courts.</li><li>Painting of tennis and pickleball lines in accordance with City standards and the City&rsquo;s Tennis and Pickleball Strategy.</li></ul>Project Timeline and Consultation Construction for the tennis courts is anticipated to begin in 2026, subject to Council approval of the 2026 Parks Program budget. Construction for the basketball courts is planned in alignment with lifecycle schedules, and both projects will aim to minimize disruption to park users during implementation.Concept plans for both projects are available in the Document Library on this page. Residents are invited to complete the survey and provide feedback on the proposed designs.
