Consultation has concluded.

September 12, 2023:

Thank you to everyone who participated in the Southcreek Village Park public consultation.

The consultation statistics show that 225 participants looked at the project website, and of those, 50 individuals provided responses to the survey that was posted. Three playground options were provided and 25 of the 50 participants preferred Option 1.

In general, the submissions included the following requests and comments:

  • Add more bike racks
  • Add a baseball diamond instead of tennis courts
  • Add a parking lot
  • Add a fenced off-leash dog area
  • Use rubber safety surfacing for the playground
  • Like the more traditional design and the junior / senior areas
  • Best overall mix for all ages
  • Children like it the most
  • Remove tennis/pickleball courts (noise concerns)

As a neighbourhood park, on street parking is preferred as these parks are intended as walk-to destinations.  Bike racks have been included at both ends of the park, near the playground and beside the basketball court.  There is a baseball diamond located nearby in Joella Park (approx. 700m away).

The amenities presented were based on initial community feedback and the available budget. As we move through the detailed design process, cost estimates are revised, and decisions are made on which amenities can be built.  Based on budget constraints and community feedback (including concerns about potential noise from pickleball), the tennis/pickleball courts have been removed. An updated concept plan is now available in the ‘Document Library’.

The other items that were requested are not able to be implemented in this park due to either space and/or budget constraints. However, Parks & Facilities Planning will continue to look for opportunities to include these amenities within the extended neighbourhood.

An update regarding the construction timeline will be posted to Engage Ottawa once the rough grading of the park has been approved and following the public tender process.

The City is looking for your feedback on a new park to be constructed at 5505 Southcreek Drive in Ward 20 - Osgoode.

You can download and review the Concept Plan in the ‘Document Library’ (located to the right) which shows the proposed design and more information on the proposed park amenities. Please be aware that the final park plan may differ from the concept being presented as a result of the public consultation responses, technical detailing, and supply and/or financial constraints.

Take the survey below to tell us your preference for the playground equipment style options. The survey will be open until Sunday, April 16, 2023. Please be aware that the survey can only be taken once per account.
