What We Heard

Thank you to everyone who shared their thoughts on the Riverview Park playground designs. We received helpful feedback from many residents.

Based on your feedback Concept B was the preferred design. Residents want a playground that is fun, creative, and easy for all children to use.

A number of residents asked for better accessibility for children and caretakers with different needs.

This design includes a number of accessible features including:

  • Accessible path to new play features
  • Accessible play surface (Engineered Wood Fibre) around play equipment
    • Accessible ramp to play surface
  • Accessible saucer swing option
  • Accessible bench

We also heard that shade, benches, and good drainage are important to families who use the park.

This feedback will help us improve the design and make the playground more inclusive, engaging, and enjoyable for everyone in the community.

Please note, these are concept designs, and minor changes can be expected as design and construction move forward.

The City of Ottawa is renewing the playground at Riverview Park. The current slide and swings are old and need to be replaced.

Two new design concepts — Concept A and Concept B — have been created for the community to review. Both designs include:

  • A new play structure for children ages 18 months to 12 years
  • A new accessible swing set with 1 accessible seat, 2 infant seats, and 2 belt seats
  • Engineered wood fibre safety surfacing (wood‑chip style)
  • A new accessible asphalt path and an accessible bench
  • A small sand play area that will remain
  • New trees to add shade over time

Concept A focuses on double/curved slides, a cable‑net climber, and a larger berm, while Concept B offers a spiral slide, a mountain climber, and a smaller berm.

Please review both design concepts and complete the short survey.

Your feedback will help shape the final playground design.

After the survey, the project team will review all feedback and prepare a final plan for detailed design and future construction.

Please be aware that the final park plan may differ from the concept being presented as a result of the public consultation responses, technical detailing, and material supply and/ or financial constraints.
