The 2024 Professional Learning Funding presents an opportunity for Child Care and Early Years professionals in Ottawa to participate in professional learning opportunities that build capacity and support the provision of high-quality programs. This funding initiative is designed to support professional development activities focused on mental health, pedagogical practices, diversity, and inclusion.
The Professional Learning initiative will prioritize the following areas, which can be tailored to meet the specific needs of your team, program, and community:
Mental health and resilience training for staff
Early years and child care pedagogical practices aligned with How Does Learning Happen?
Anti-racism, diversity, equity, and inclusion practices
Incorporating Indigenous perspectives and pedagogies
Supporting educators in building capacity to support children with special needs through inclusive practices
Equity-based Communities of Practices
Strengthening management/administration skills for those in director/supervisory roles and those aspiring to these roles (e.g., staff supervision, financial management, communication strategies)
Central to this initiative are Professional Learning Champions, who play a vital role in supporting the professional learning strategy. The Professional Learning Champion will be an employee/contractor of the participating organization and responsible for participating in - as well as planning, delivering and/or coordinating - professional learning and informal mentoring activities for staff in your organization. These activities can be further tailored to meet the unique needs of your team, program(s) and community served.
The Professional Learning Champion will:
Act as the organizational contact who will bring forward information to support coordinated sector learning and development
Help inform a sector training calendar
Play an important role in coordinating and/or delivering staff learning, development and mentorship in the identified priority areas to increase quality and responsiveness within the child care and early years system.

In order to better understand the providers and to identify key contacts for professional learning initiatives, the City’s Children’s Services is looking to gather details about your organization and your designated Professional Learning Champions.
This information will help us to facilitate effective communication and coordination of professional development activities, as well as ensure that professional learning opportunities are tailored to the specific needs of different provider types, including Collective Stream, Indigenous, and Francophone organizations. The information will also support the development of a Professional Learning Working Group that will collaborate to identify and prioritize professional development needs, develop annual plans, and promote continuous learning across the sector.
Your participation will help us support and enhance the Professional Development of staff within the Child Care and Early Years sector and - more specifically - within your organization.
