The City of Ottawa is developing a new comprehensive Zoning By-law for approval by Council in 2025. The by-law will implement the policies and directions in the <a href="https://engage.ottawa.ca/the-new-official-plan/news_feed/official-plan-tracked">new Official Plan</a> approved by the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing on November 04, 2022. Once approved, the new Zoning By-law will replace the current Zoning By-law (By-law 2008-250).Starting in 2023, the City will be consulting with communities, the development industry, grass-roots organizations, non-profits and other stakeholders to ensure that everyone gets a chance to have their say in the new Zoning By-law.This Engage Ottawa page will be your one-stop shop for project updates and information on future public engagement opportunities. New Zoning By-law

The City of Ottawa has initiated the Bank Street Active Transportation and Transit Priority Feasibility Study, between Highway 417 and the Rideau Canal.The Official Plan designates Bank Street as a Mainstreet and Transit Priority Corridor, an Arterial Road and a Design Priority Area. The study will:<ul><li>Examine options to improve transit service efficiency and reliability along the corridor;</li><li>Investigate opportunities to improve the travel environment for active transportation modes;</li><li>Undertake an assessment of impacts and trade-offs;</li><li>Identify a potential pilot project for early implementation;</li><li>Identify costs for potential implementation; and</li><li>Consult with the general public and stakeholders.</li></ul>

According to the 2021 Census, <a class="Hyperlink SCXW197614142 BCX8" href="https://www12.statcan.gc.ca/census-recensement/2021/dp-pd/prof/details/page.cfm?Lang=E&GENDERlist=1,2,3&STATISTIClist=1&HEADERlist=0&DGUIDlist=2021A00053506008&SearchText=ottawa" rel="noreferrer noopener" target="_blank"></a>37% of Ottawa&rsquo;s population is over the age of 50 and represents the fastest-growing age group, with those over 85 and over 100 showing particularly significant increases. In 2021, there were 172,150 older adults over the age of 65 in Ottawa, making up 17% of the population. There are now more older adults than children under 15, and by 2030, it is estimated that one in five adults will be aged 65 and over.  </div><div class="OutlineElement Ltr SCXW197614142 BCX8">Ottawa&rsquo;s population of older adults is becoming increasingly more diverse and needs vary greatly between sub-groups of seniors. While seniors face many challenges as they age, some contributing factors such as low income and living alone are most associated with increased vulnerability and, in turn, a heightened risk of poor health outcomes. To reflect the findings from the Evaluation Report, and to adapt to new and emerging needs from older adults, the City is engaging in the development of a new iteration of the Older Adult Plan.
