Frank Ryan Park - Tennis Court Renewal
An online survey regarding the Frank Ryan Park tennis court resurface was conducted on Engage Ottawa from August 8-23. Thank you to everyone that provided input on the concept plan.
The City is presently developing a Tennis/Pickleball strategy, that will provide a clear direction and delivery model for pickleball courts across Ottawa. As the tennis courts in Frank Ryan Park are in proximity to residential homes, the request for pickleball lines can be assessed once the strategy has been implemented.
Presently, only the tennis court surface with the required accessibility improvements of pathways and benches are within scope of this project.
The summary of the public comments and responses is provided below:
- Many respondents were pleased to hear of the upcoming tennis court resurface.
- Practice board has been included in the project.
- The request for garbage receptacles in this area has been sent to waste management for consideration.
- Request for acrylic surfacing is out of scope for this project.
- Several respondents requested lighting to be added to the court. Lights can be disruptive to neighbours adjacent the park and is not in scope of the tennis resurface project.
- Requests for pickleball lines could be assessed following the implementation of the Tennis/Pickleball Strategy. Pickleball is not in scope for this tennis court resurface project.
Improvements beyond the current service level of the existing tennis court are not eligible for asset management funding.
Following the completion of the public tender process, an update regarding the construction timeline will be posted to engage Ottawa.

The City of Ottawa is seeking input on concept plan prepared for the lifecycle replacement of the tennis courts in Frank Ryan Park, located at the intersection of Alpine Ave and Clarenda St.
According to the Strategic Asset Management Plan (2017), the Ageing Assets Strategy states that “to maintain levels of service over time and to remain sustainable, not all assets should or can be replaced before reaching the end of their expected service life.”
Therefore, the scope of the current lifecycle replacement project is specific to; resurfacing of the two tennis courts with new asphalt, line painting, and nets. Two new accessible pathway connections to the tennis courts will be added along with accessible benches and a new park sign.
Residents are invited to complete the survey and provide comments on the concept plan.
A summary of public comments will be posted to this website upon completion of the public consultation.
Construction to commence 2025, pending budget approval.
