Supporting Those Who Need It

It's been spoken about often that the root of most crime (other than the structures of crime being culturally specific, like criminalizing homelessness, loitering, etc and specifically targeting racialized individual) is lack of resources. Because of that, for me, making Ottawa a safer place means increasing the resources that are earlier on in the pipeline that lead to crime- investing in underprivileged youth, education, racialized and lower income communities and social services for people in need who are experiencing homelessness and food insecurity. What would make me feel safer is knowing how to help people in safe and tangible ways who I see needing help, and knowing that there is early, well-funded and culturally specific resources available to not to just stop crime before it happens, but keep people from feeling like they're in a position where they need to commit a crime in the first place.
