Reallocate funds from police to Social Programs
Hi,
I am a woman who lives in Canada, and I am incredibly thankful for the freedoms I am afforded as a Canadian citizen. With all the news and press on the case of George Floyd, I want to finally use my voice and make a world where future generations won’t have to live in our current climate. I think that Canada needs to redirect the funds it uses for police to pay and offer proper resources to immigrants, people with disabilities, students, and much more. My mother came in contact with a family from a refugee camp in Congo who were forced to flee their home for fear of their life and their children’s future. The social worker in charge of them was not equipped with the funds or skills to help this family, where the parents are both illiterate and their oldest child is 13. Covid-19 has also affected their schooling, and the challenges of being in a foreign place without knowing the language is unimaginable. I believe that if we start the work now, there can be more specialized people to help with specific needs our community needs.
Thank you for taking the time to read this. Black lives matter.
