Divest and Defund Ottawa Police

I believe Ottawa police needs to be divested from and mental health services and marginalized communities (stigmatized neighbourhoods like Vanier, anyone anything Indigenous related, the racialized homeless and other BIPOC resources) should be invested in. There should be no increase in police funding as other necessary culturally competent services are left behind. Abolition requires mot than police officers disappearing. It means decreasing reliance on police. It also doesn’t mean police absence, inaction, or non-intervention practices especially now considering this pandemic. I would like to see concrete action derive from accessible community consultations. I want see new approaches safety, accountability, and a full audit on the people who are often policed in this city!
