Defund the Police, Reallocate Funding to Community Services

Canada has a terrible history of state violence against BIPOC communities and Ottawa is not an exception.

We need to stop addressing public safety with the use of force and instead re-allocate funding to community services that will actually keep our residents safe. We need to be investing funds into affordable housing, education, mental-health awareness/healing, youth outreach, and social services.

Re allocation of policing funds

The budget of our city should be better divided to serve our community better. By investing in services that are properly equipped to help our residents instead of investing in programs (the police) that -at best- provide a bandaid solution to larger ongoing problems. Investing in public health, social services, and communities we invest in a happier and better future for the entire city. As the capital of Canada it is imperative that we set a proper example of how the future of the world and our country is inclusive.

the police are getting too much funding. the police budget for 2020 is 360 million while teachers are having to buy their own chalk and whiteboard markers and nurses are wearing trashbags as PPE. this is a time where relocating funds to healthcare is especially important! we should cut the police budget and relocate funds to education, healthcare and mental health services. you can even use those mental health services FOR police, seeing as the vast majority are not trained to be responding to cases concerning mental health. this is a HUGE issue that needs to be fixed. police don't…
