Defund and disarm the police. Invest in community based support systems.

I am here to mention only a few reasons why I believe the police should be disarmed and defunded. Police should not be sent for wellness checks. We need more community-led support systems for the mentally ill. It’s obvious that police do not have the proper training to deal with this and often escalate the situation more than helping it. It makes no sense why we send a police officer with any weapons to deal with non violent crimes. This is a big reason why people do not feel safe when police are involved. Instead of sending police to chase arrest people with drug addictions we should be investing in support systems to help those people. I’ve only mentioned a few things but there are many more issues I could go into more depth about. Please consider defunding the police and reallocating those funds into community-led services to help make a safer and better city.
