Councilor Plante is considering adding a new children senior play equipment to the park. We are at a preliminary feasibility stage, and this could be a great asset to the park and an opportunity to design a “challenging” and “stimulating” new playground for children between 5 and 12 years old.
Within the swing set, an accessible seat is included and a communication board for children with autism will be added to the project. With the proposed engineered wood fibre surface on the playground area, the play equipment will become accessible to all.
A new outdoor fitness facility is out of the scope of this lifecycle replacement project.
The chosen concept will now go to the detailed design stage, with construction anticipated in 2024.
The City of Ottawa is looking for your feedback on three concepts for the new play equipment at Strathcona Park. The existing junior play structure and equipment have surpassed their intended service life. The playground needs to be replaced “like-for-like” to respond to the play needs of the neighboring residents and to comply with the City’s accessibility requirements.
You can download and review the Concept Plans in the “Documentary Library” (located to your right) which shows the proposed design and playground. All concept options envision a swing set with height seats: three toddler seats, one accessible seat and four belt seats. Three options are proposed for the play equipment structure. Each option slightly differs in terms of play features.
The final playground plan may differ from the concept plan since it will be taking into consideration factors such as public consultation responses, technical detailing, supply availability and financial constraints.
