The City is developing new maintenance standards for specialty spaces and streets to address their unique operational requirements, including landscaping, lifecycle management and cleanliness.
Located on City property, specialty spaces and streets are tourist destinations, community landmarks, economic generators and gathering spaces. Their design elements – interlock pavers, coloured concrete, street furniture, planters, landscape features, water features, lighting, signs – require enhanced maintenance.
Staff will build on the existing maintenance quality standards, industry best practices and standards in other municipalities to develop a framework and service levels that maximize enjoyment and safety for residents and visitors. Staff will consult with residents and stakeholders before making recommendations to Council in September 2021.
