Project Details

As per the Council-approved Transportation Master Plan, the City of Ottawa has initiated a functional design study for River Road to recommend improvements to walking and cycling infrastructure and intersection control measures.

The proposed upgrade to River Road, between Earl Armstrong Road and Solarium Avenue, is identified as a priority project in the Council-approved Transportation Master Plan. River Road plays an important role in connecting residents to destinations throughout the community. The functional design study will identify improvements to safety, mobility, and connectivity for all road users while supporting future development.

Improvements being considered include:

  • New walking and cycling facilities, including multi-use pathways, sidewalks and cycle tracks
  • Improved bus stops

  • Accessibility features, such as curb ramps, depressed curbs and tactile walking surface indicators

  • Boulevards and streetscape enhancements

  • Improved drainage, such as upgrading existing ditches or swales to manage stormwater runoff

All improvements are planned to be accommodated within the existing corridor and rightofway.

Project Implementation

Once this functional design study is complete, the project will advance to detailed design and construction through the annual budget process.
