Proudmore Romina Park, phase 2: New Park Development
Update: 24 October, 2024
Thank you to everyone who took interest in the project and participated in the Proudmore-Romina Park public consultation.
The consultation statistics show that there were a total of 374 visits to the English and French web pages. Of those visits, there were a total of:
- 278 ‘aware’ participants; meaning that they visited at least one of the project pages;
- 154 ‘informed’ participants; meaning that they downloaded a document, visited multiple project pages, and/or participated in the survey; and
- 82 ‘engaged’ participants; meaning that they participated in the survey.
Survey Results:
- 80% liked the proposed recreation equipment.
- 89% supported painting pickleball lines onto the tennis court.
- 74% supported adding the climbing structure to the proposed design if budget is available to do so; this will be determined as the project detailed design proceeds.
Survey participants were also invited to provide comments in addition to answering the survey questions. The comments that occurred in a frequency of more than 10% of the ‘engaged’ participants (8 out of 82) and therefore 3% of the ‘aware’ participants (8 out of 278) are included below:
Comment Frequency
- Splash pad is requested ----------------------------------------------------- 14
- Dog park is requested -------------------------------------------------------- 4
- Area is deficient of play equipment; additional requested ----------- 8
A splash pad and additional play equipment were considered in the preliminary concept; however, due to the location of the water service and the existing play equipment, they were found not feasible for the park expansion area. Additional child-play equipment in this park would be best located near to the existing play equipment to help caregivers supervise children. It should also be noted that Monticello Park, which is within close walking distance of Proudmore-Romina Park, and which is also anticipated to be constructed in 2025, will provide more play equipment and will help relieve the pressures on Proudmore-Romina Park.
A fenced dog park could not be included due to budget and space constraints. New facilities are typically located in larger community parks and away from housing, if possible. Once the park has been constructed, the By-law Office can be contacted to designate the park for dogs. They will need to assess the park to determine what sort of dog-designation is suitable and whether an unfenced off-leash dog area can be accommodated.
Parks and Facilities Planning will explore other opportunities to provide a splash pad and a suitable location for a fenced dog park within the extended neighbourhood.
Some comments were also received regarding the existing park amenities. These items will be noted for future consideration; however, the current project scope does not include the equipment or amenities on the existing park property.
Next steps will be to develop the park construction drawings. The park is anticipated to be constructed in the 2025 summer season.
Thank you again for your interest and participation.

The City is looking for your feedback on the proposed plan and recreation equipment for the phase 2 addition to Proudmore Romina Park in Ward 23 (Kanata South). The new portion of the park is located to the east and south of the existing park and is approximately 1.0 hectares in area.
When considering the proposed equipment for Proudmore Romina Park, it is important to be aware of the equipment that already exists in the park as well as other parks nearby. The location map (available via link on the right side of the screen) shows Proudmore Romina Park in relation to the surrounding parks.
Proudmore Romina Park currently contains the following amenities:
Play structures (designed for ages 2 – 12 years old)
- Swing set (including 2x belt swings, 1x toddler swing, 1x accessible bucket swing)
- A sand play area
- A basketball court
- A shade shelter
- A small sports field which also provides room for ‘free play’
- A small hill
- Park furniture (benches & trash receptacle), and
- A series of pathways connecting all of the amenities together and to the sidewalks.
To help increase the diversity of equipment and recreation opportunities in the local parks, the amenities being proposed for phase 2 of Proudmore Romina Park include teen and adult focused equipment, including a tennis and pickleball court, a climbing structure, and umbrella tables for seating; a larger hill for tobogganing is also proposed. The new park amenities will be accessed by a new park path and will be connected to the neighbourhood sidewalk system. The design will comply with the City of Ottawa Accessibility Design Standards.
Please note that while the edge between the existing park and phase 2 may be slightly affected, it is not being proposed to disturb or change the existing park, and the existing amenities, during the construction of phase 2.
You can download and review the Proudmore Romina Park concept plan (which shows the overall proposed park design) and the proposed equipment and park furniture in the ‘Document Library’ on the right.
Take the survey below to provide your feedback. The survey will be open until Monday, October 21st.
