Throughout the world, cities often celebrate the calendar date that coincides with their telephone area codes. They’re called Area Code Days!

On Saturday, June 13, 2026, we’re marking Ottawa Day, a celebration inspired by our iconic area code and the local pride that comes with it.

We could tell you how proud we are to live in such a dynamic, interesting, multicultural, inclusive and fun city. But we’d rather show you. Take a look at the Events Map. We’ve found at least two dozen planned events happening on Ottawa Day.

Ottawa residents and visitors, people from within the 613 and beyond, are encouraged to participate in all the gatherings taking place on June 13. There’s something for everyone.

Here are some resources to help you plan your day:

How do you plan to spend Ottawa Day?

Visit the Events Map and place a pin where you plan on spending some or all of your time on Saturday, June 13. Is it one of the events we highlighted, or something else entirely? Then visit Your story to tell us what you are looking forward to. Share a favourite story, photo, or video that truly captures the spirit of the 613?

Your message may not show up right away, but it will within 24 hours.

Please note that the City of Ottawa is not the organizer of the highlighted events. Some of the events require you to purchase a ticket. Most of the events have products or food for sale. You can attend some of the events free of charge.

The story behind our area code

Created in 1947 as one of the original North American area codes, 613 has long served Eastern Ontario, including Ottawa, Kingston and Cornwall. While its boundaries have shifted over time with the introduction of new area codes, 613 continues to stand as a familiar marker of Ottawa’s history, connection, and local identity across our region.
