July 2025 update: Survey results

The survey period is now closed. We had 51 responses to the survey and 671 webpage visits. The survey generated nearly equal interest in the two park design options with another handful of respondents indicating that both options are appreciated. Having reviewed the feedback, it appears that many are looking for a “best of both words” park, with seating, shade and fitness opportunities.

We will proceed with Option 1 which includes both fitness equipment, traditional benches, and an accessible picnic table. Much of the site will remain green for unstructured enjoyment, and tree plantings. Here are some of the most common themes found in the comments provided by residents:

1. Strong Demand for Water Features (Splash Pad / Pond):

We hear you — a splash pad or water feature would be a fantastic addition, especially during these hot summer days. However, this particular park is quite small and doesn’t have the water infrastructure or budget needed to support such a feature. We did explore splash pad possibilities at nearby Babe McRae Park, but the communal well system limits what we can do in Richmond Village right now.

2. Prioritizing Children and Young Families:

We understand that young families are a big part of this community! While this park won’t include new play structures, there is a new playground anticipated in a future park on Oldenburg Drive—just a short 240-meter walk away. This new park will be connected to existing parks via multi-use paths, making it easy and safe for kids and families to access multiple play areas close to home.

3. Interest in Fitness and Multi-use Design:

Fitness equipment was a popular idea, and we’re excited to bring something new to the neighbourhood that hasn’t been offered in nearby parks yet. The unique surfboard-style equipment not only encourages active play for teens and adults but also doubles as alternative seating—making it a fun, social space for all ages.

4. Seating, Shade, and Accessibility:

Comfort and accessibility are important to us. The design includes two benches and an accessible picnic table, all surrounded by new trees for shade. Bench along the multi-use path will give walkers convenient spots to rest.

5. Dog Park Requests:

For our dog lovers, there’s good news! A designated off-leash dog park is being planned nearby in the Village on Perth Street. This location keeps the dog park a respectful distance from neighbours.

We value your feedback!

Thank you to everyone who took the time to share your thoughts and ideas. Your input helps us make better decisions that truly reflect the needs and wishes of our community. This consultation is just one step in the process — we encourage you to stay involved as plans continue to develop. If you have further questions, suggestions, or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Together, we can create parks and spaces that everyone can enjoy!

June 2025 Update: Share Your Feedback on Two New Park Design Options

The initial survey on the park design closed at the end of April with limited feedback. Comments received suggested that residents are looking for a more exciting and engaging space.

In response, we’re pleased to share two new design concepts with unique amenities for this small park!

Whatever option is selected will be in keeping with the City of Ottawa Accessibility Design Standards and will be developed to maximize the available budget. Please note that children’s play equipment will not be included, as it is available in nearby existing and planned parks.

We invite you to review the updated concepts in the document tab and complete the below survey to share your input.

Option 1: Fitness-Focused Design

This design includes:

  • A rope climbing wall
  • Two balance boards — offering a unique workout experience that mimics surfing or paddleboarding. Great for yoga, balance training, or simply relaxing and swaying.

Option 2: Seating-Focused Design

This design includes:

  • Colorful lounge chairs placed under a pergola for shaded, comfortable seating
  • Picnic tables, including one with a built-in chess board for casual play and gathering

April 2025: Initial Posting

The City is looking for your feedback on the design of a new parkette located in Richmond Village, Ward 21. The parkette will be located north of Perth Street, abutting the Van Gaal Drain, alongside the future east-west multi-use pathway that will connect future Postilion Street to existing Cedarstone Street.

The park is tentatively named “Postilion Parkette” after the street on which it will be located.

This park is one of two parks to be constructed north of Perth Street in the Western Development Lands. Details of the second park are not available at this time, but it is anticipated to include children’s play structure(s).

Postillion Parkette is proposed to have outdoor gym apparatus. The park will also provide views to the Van Gaal Drain with picnic tables, benches, tree plantings and open play space.

The fitness equipment proposed features an incline bench, parallel bars, push up bar, decline press, Swedish ladder, human flagpole, pull up station and dip station.

Please note that the pedestrian bridge shown in the concept drawing is not within the scope of this park project. It is anticipated to be constructed by the developer on a schedule independent of the park construction.

Please take the survey below to share your feedback around the park design. The survey will be open until April 27 and can only be taken once per account.

This website will be updated following the survey to summarize public feedback as well as with the project schedule as more information is available.
