The City of Ottawa has launched a Functional Design Study for Merivale Road from Carling Avenue to Larose Avenue, as shown in the figure below. This study will examine opportunities to redesign the corridor in advance of an upcoming integrated road, sewer, and watermain renewal project. The study will consider improvements to active transportation facilities, transit and streetscaping on Merivale Road, in line with the Official Plan designation as a design priority corridor. The Merivale Road (North) Community Design Plan will be referenced, along with current standards and guidelines regarding road design.

Key objectives include:

  • Reviewing lane arrangements and intersection improvements
  • Evaluating and recommending on-street parking solutions
  • Determining sidewalk, boulevard, cycling, and transit improvements
  • Developing a high-level streetscaping plan including potential tree locations

Project Result and Timing

The study will result in a recommended functional design for Merivale Road, guiding subsequent detailed design phases. It is anticipated that the functional design study will be completed in 2027.

Public Involvement

The City of Ottawa encourages public involvement and values your input throughout the study. Further details regarding the proposed design and public consultation will be posted to this page as the study progresses.
