Ottawa is a beautiful citywithunique features that add to the quality of life of the people who live here. It is a vast urban, suburban and rural city with a rich cultural and multilingual mix. It has a strong economy and is home to a highly educated population.
However, there is an increasing need to support those living on low to moderate incomes.
We are looking forsuggestions to help us meet our goal of creating a city that has affordable housing and is more liveable for all.
We welcome any new andinnovative ideas on how we can offer services in a different way, or how we can be more cost-effective.
What does it mean to have a liveable city?
It means living in a city that offers services that affect the lives of all residents, including those most in need. It also means making sure that people have access to affordable housing, emergency services, employment services, licensed child care, early years services and to supports for mental health and substance use.
A liveable city is also one with parks, recreation and cultural services in communities.In Ottawa, it means ensuring quality services for Francophones, Indigenous Peoples, racialized citizensand families facing barriers.
We have already started improving services and findingmore effective ways of workingto help create a city that has affordable housing and that is more liveable for all. We have listed some examples of these efforts below to give you a sense of the work that is underway.
But we know there is more that can be done.
