Lansdowne 2.0 Construction – Monthly Newsletter - February 2026
February 3, 2026
We are back with another Lansdowne 2.0 monthly update.
January brought us more than 35 centimeters of snow and a polar vortex. Just like the rest of Ottawa, a few extra layers of clothing ensured work continued as planned at Lansdowne.
Time to dig into what was accomplished in January and what is scheduled for February.
January Recap
After months of preparing the site for construction, January saw the start of excavation for the new Event Centre.
Nestled between the TD Place east endzone and the Great Lawn, construction of the new Event Centre is taking place while events continue to take place in TD Arena. This means hockey, basketball, musical acts and other ticketed events will continue to take place until the new Event Centre is finished in Q3 2028.
To build the new Event Centre, we need to remove the berm and then dig one storey below ground to establish the foundation.
Here is what took place in January:
- Moving Surfaces artwork was carefully and safely relocated to an off-site City storage facility while the new Event Centre is constructed.
- 50% of the berm has been removed as of the end of January.
- Modifications were made to the edge of the South Side Stands to safely separate our construction site from TD Place events and day-to-day operations.
Check out our progress pictures below to get a play-by-play of what is happening behind the scenes:
Picture 1: Excavators work in mid-January to remove the berm located behind the TD Place east endzone.
Picture 2: An excavator loads a truck during excavation of the berm in mid-January.
Picture 3: A truck is loaded near the south end of the berm in late January. Approximately 50% of the berm has been removed as of the end of January. Once complete, we’ll be digging approximately one storey or three metres deeper to prepare for foundation work in the spring.
Picture 4: Construction vehicles access the site via a new haul road which is located behind the South Side Stands. Vehicles exit and enter the site underneath the Bank Street bridge.
What’s planned for February?
Work will continue to remove the berm. This will be followed by digging below ground to prepare for the foundation of the future Event Centre.
As we dig deeper, support walls will be installed along the outer edge of the Event Centre footprint. Known as shoring, these support structures will help stabilize the soil around the footprint of the future Event Centre.
Utility work will take place in February. We’ll be installing new sewers, pipes and electrical conduits that will supply the future Event Centre with water and power.
Our team continues to monitor the flow of traffic around the project site with careful attention along Bank Street, Wilton Crescent, and Queen Elizabeth Place. Flag persons and signage are in place to keep our project and the community safely moving. Construction traffic volume is anticipated to decrease after early March once berm excavation is complete. We thank you for your continued patience while safely travelling through this area.

Lansdowne 2.0 Construction – Monthly Newsletter - January 2026
January 7, 2026
Welcome to the first edition of our monthly Lansdowne 2.0 newsletter.
We are glad to have you following along as the City builds a new Event Centre, modern North Side Stands, and renewed public spaces.
The project will roll out in three distinct construction phases:
- New Event Centre (Q4 2025-Q3 2028)
- New North Side Stands (Q4 2028-Q4 2030)
- Mixed-use development and retail spaces (Starting in 2031)
Construction is being executed by EBC Inc., with oversight from the City of Ottawa.
Each newsletter will include a summary of the work completed over the past month, an overview of the schedule for the month ahead, and important updates related to the construction project. We will also sprinkle in some interesting facts and figures to help keep you informed about what is happening behind the scenes.
Completed Work
December marked the start of preliminary work for the Event Centre. This work sets the stage before construction can begin.
Here is what was accomplished:
- Fencing: The Event Centre construction site has been secured with a mix of fencing and hoarding located around the Great Lawn, adjacent to the TD Place east endzone, and along the temporary haul road behind the South Side Stands. This measure will safely separate construction zones from public areas to minimize disruption and ensure a safe environment for everyone.
- Great Lawn and sledding hill: The Great Lawn and sledding hill have been temporarily closed to the public to allow for the construction of the new Event Centre. Once the new Event Centre is complete, a reinstated Great Lawn and sledding hill will reopen to the public. For further information on alternative sledding hill options, please visit ottawa.ca.
-
Tree removals completed: Tree removal was limited strictly to areas required for construction. To offset these removals, a comprehensive replanting plan is in place:
- City-owned trees will be replaced at a one-for-one ratio.
- NCC-owned trees will be replaced at a two-for-one ratio.
- In total, the 122 trees removed will be replaced by 126 new trees.
- Protective measures will be put in place to safeguard the remaining trees that are nearby construction.
- Site trailer set up: The trailers that will serve as temporary offices for the Lansdowne 2.0 project teams were delivered.
- Public Information Session: Thanks to everyone who joined us on December 17. Missed it? You can check out the boards on our project website.

The beginning of 2026 will focus on the excavation and servicing for the future Event Centre.
Here is what is on the schedule for January:
- Removing topsoil
- Starting berm excavation
- Removal, relocation and storing of Moving Surfaces artwork
- Localized demolition of portions of the existing South and North Side Stands. This includes a small portion of the lower-level South Side Stands adjacent to the east end zone and the removal of stairs and ramps outside of Gate 4. Access to TD Place events will continue to be available at all other gates throughout the construction of the new Event Centre.
Managing Construction Traffic and Minimizing Impacts
We understand that where construction vehicles travel is important to the community. Your safety is our top priority and we have the following measures in place:
- Everyone working on the project, including City Staff, consultants and contractors, receive a community overview prior to starting work to understand the importance of safely constructing the project within an established neighborhood.
- Construction traffic will be actively monitored and managed.
- Flag persons will be in place to direct traffic where required.
- On-site project team will oversee work and respond to community feedback.
The construction of Lansdowne 2.0 will see construction traffic follow a dedicated route along Bank Street when entering and exiting Lansdowne.
Further details regarding the flow of construction traffic in and out of Lansdowne will be shared in advance of upcoming excavation work.
