Comments related to Concept Plan B included:

  • Seating is closer to all play equipment for parents to sit and watch children.
  • Better positioning of the picnic table.
  • Bumblebee is cute for little kids.
  • The less asphalt in a park, the better. I don't often see anyone there given that there is a number of more interesting structures at the other end of the park.
  • Like the layout and think the sandbox area is important
  • Both offer a new swing set, but the bee spring toy has a link to the pollinators.
  • The accessible picnic table is in a better position to view children in both areas, while leaving more space for people to set up lawn chairs to view the children.

The City has been able to add a second spring toy into the project based on the feedback and available budget.

An update regarding the construction timeline will be posted to Engage Ottawa following the tendering process.

The City of Ottawa is seeking input on concept plans prepared for the lifecycle replacement of the playground at the south end of Father Richard Ward Park located at 1073 Chablis Park (Ward 2 - Orléans West-Innes).

Image of existing playground showing sand area, bucket swing, spring toy and benches.

The scope of the current lifecycle replacement project is specific to; replacement of the existing playground with a standard 3 bay (2 belt, 2 bucket, 1 accessible) swing set, a spring toy, a sand area, an accessible picnic table, and two accessible park benches. Engineered wood fiber is proposed as the protective surfacing material for the swing set area to meet accessibility requirements.

Two different concept plans with images of the proposed playground equipment options are located in the Document Library on this page. Residents are invited to complete the survey and provide comments on the playground equipment options.

A summary of public comments and the preferred option will be posted to this website upon completion of the public consultation.

Construction is anticipated to commence in 2025, pending budget approval.
