What is a culture plan?

A culture plan sets out a vision for the role the municipality is to play in culture over a set time period.

Culture plans are developed collaboratively with the community.

    Common elements include:

    • a shared definition or understanding of culture
    • maps and inventories of cultural assets
    • goals and an action plan to work towards those goals

    Why are culture plans important?

Culture plans are important because culture is important! Culture brings people together. A healthy cultural life supports individual and community wellbeing.

    Culture plans:

    • Demonstrate culture is a municipal priority
    • Make sure that the City is using the same definition and understanding of culture across its work
    • Helps guide cultural programs and supports
    • Identifies actions that the City can take to improve access to culture and support cultural participation, creation and expression
