Alvin Heights Park is a well-used and much loved urban parkette in the Manor Park neighbourhood of Ward 13. The park features swings, play structures, a basketball key and wading pool along with changerooms and accessible washrooms. The pool area and the playground are separated by a small hill and the various service buildings. A pathway and short staircase at either side of the park link the 2 areas.

Park facilities are aging and approaching the end of their service life. The pool deck is cracked and not draining properly and there is insufficient seating around the deck for staff and users. An area of masonry on the pool building has degraded due to poor drainage. The accessible ramp to the washroom is deteriorating and requires significant repair. There is room for additional amenities on the upper level of the park. The current basketball key requires renewal, and capacity can be increased.

This project proposes a variety of park improvements:

  • The existing pool deck is at the end of its service life and will be replaced.
  • Existing furniture on the pool deck will be replaced, and 2 new shade tables will be provided.
  • A new accessible ramp will be provided into the washroom building.
  • Some building masonry repairs will be completed.
  • A new ping pong table will be provided at the southwest end of the pool deck.
  • The existing basketball key will be replaced with 2 keys back-to-back, allowing 2 groups to simultaneously play.
