Your cops are not well trained & we dont need them

Hello,

My name is Emilie, I've lived in Ottawa my whole life. I'm a 5th year media student at U Ottawa.

To begin, I've never trusted the vibes from the Ottawa Police. Their budget is 358 million dollars. That is so much money!!!! I understand 80% of that money goes into salaries but to be frank I don't think cops should be payed that much. Officers are hired after only 13 weeks training, most of those officers are white males. I dont think we need the police. The only OPS officers I would keep would be to track the roads and highways, about two officers per district.

All other situations in which police would normally intervene should be dealt by social workers and health professionals. I think the community does a much better job at keeping eachother safe than the OPS does however much more work is needed to make safer spaces in Ottawa.

I dont feel comfortable reelecting a city council that does not care about the safety of its most margianlized people.
