Traffic Noise and Danger

We live on Dickinson Street in Manotick where we can sit on the front porch listening to the birds in the trees while our daughter runs about the front yard chasing butterflies and frogs. Sounds lovely doesn’t it? Well I’m sorry to say that lately this is ruined by a large number of drivers in and around the village who are just in a hurry to get through Manotick or as simply showing off. Locally our street has become a common cut-through for people who want to avoid the lights at Bridge Street and Main Street. When these people cut through they are just about always rolling through the stop sign causing danger for everyone else using the streets. It’s unpleasant to sit on our porch during rush hour. A little further away on Manotick Main Street it’s easy to hear the street racers and other show offs ripping through the town, some of them literally squealing tires, most of them just showing off loud exhausts. All of this happening for months and yet there never appears to be any police presence to help deter the few who are ruining it for us.

As an aside I’m not someone who simply hates cars and the noises they make. Quite the opposite. I have a car that I regularly take to Calabogie Motorsports Park for my spirited driving. I just wish everyone else would tone down their driving on the streets on which we live, walk, and shop.
