Defund the police

It is painfully clear that police are being asked to do far too much, and to take on tasks they are neither well suited for nor well trained for. I do not, however, support more training or police reform. That has been happening for years, all across North America, and even in just the last few months, we have seen many people dead at the hands of the people meant to protect them. Ottawa certainly has its share of awful stories.

I strongly believe that it is no longer an option to continue funding the OPS for work they should not be doing. We need to protect the most vulnerable citizens in our city, and those citizens are clearly stating that the police do not protect them. Cutting the OPS budget is a need. These funds should be diverted to new programs that support communities without threat.
