Defund the OPS. The 360 million isn't justified. Redistribute fund to communities.

OPS is our most expensive social service. It has failed its duty to protect the community too many times by using excessive and unnecessary violence and murder targeted towards minorities (BIPOC and indigenous communities). The police's power does the opposite of reducing crime. The lack of ressources is the root of most crime. The reallocation of funds towards ressources is in order. Defunding the OPS and reallocating funding towards affordable housing, youth programs, mental health, education, and homelessness is in order.

The OPS' power in the obscene amount of funds (360 million), while not being trained well or long enough and terrorizing and killing people instead of «protecting» us, isn't justified. Furthermore, the ingrained systemic racism makes Ottawa unsafe. Who to call when someone is having a crisis? For example, defunding the police would mean having instead of the police, who notoriously engrave situations with violence, having health professionnels intervene, help deescalate.

Most of our taxes go to a social service that hurts instead of protecting, reacting violently and to racial stereotypes. The police system is inherently racist and ineffective. Power to the communities.
