Project Update - Upcoming Demolition at 1010 Somerset Street
Starting in early May 2026, the City of Ottawa will begin demolition work at 1010 Somerset Street. Demolition is expected to be completed at the end of June 2026.
What’s happening
The existing two‑storey building at 1010 Somerset Street will be demolished. The demolition is an early step in the realization of the 1010 Somerset Community Hub Concept Plan. The site will be the future location of a new, two‑storey Recreation and Cultural Facility. Construction of the future French‑language public elementary school - located south of this site - began at the end of March 2026.
Construction disruptions
Construction may cause minor impacts, including brief traffic delays near the work area and minor nuisances such as noise and dust. You may also experience minor vibrations due to the use of heavy equipment needed to complete this work. These vibrations are quite common and have minimal impact on your home and/or business. We would like to thank you for your patience and co-operation. For construction activity hours of work, the City of Ottawa follows provincial requirements and the City’s Noise By-law (2017-255).
Safety and accessibility
The City prioritizes safety at all construction sites and works closely with contractors to follow health and labour regulations. Accessibility around the site will be maintained wherever possible. If you require a disability‑related accommodation or an accessible format, please visit ottawa.ca/accessibleformat or contact the City Project Manager.
Thank you for your contribution!
