Project Status Update - February 2026

The City of Ottawa is pleased to share several important updates as work progresses on the 1010 Somerset redevelopment project.

Construction to begin on école élémentaire publique Louise-Arbour

Construction work to begin at the end of March for the future French-language public elementary. In the weeks leading up to and during construction, fencing and signage will be installed on site. Site access will be restricted to Somerset Street with minimal impact on Oak Street traffic.

Demolition of 1010 Somerset Street West building

The decommissioned federal building at 1010 Somerset Street West is scheduled for demolition in Q2. Further updates will be provided here on the project page once work is set the begin.

Upcoming Public Engagement

The City, in collaboration with Fotenn Planning + Design, will soon launch a series of in-person and virtual public consultation events in the coming months, that will focus on the design of new public parkland and the redesign of Plouffe Park. Details on how to participate will be shared on this Engage Ottawa page.

As the City plans for future recreation and cultural services at 1010 Somerset, Recreation, Cultural and Facility Services (RCFS), in collaboration with Provencher Roy Architects, will lead public consultations to support a feasibility study for a new Recreation and Cultural Facility. Community input will help identify program needs, potential facility components, and opportunities to improve access to recreation and cultural spaces.
