Consultation has concluded
The City is looking for your feedback to renew the playground at Village Square Park in Stittsville located at the corner of Stittsville Main Street and Abbott Street.
The existing playground was constructed with community involvement in 1996 and is now nearing the end of its lifespan. The City will be replacing the play structures and redoing the landscaping of the play area in 2021 to meet accessibility standards.
Village Square Park playground concept plan
Based on last year’s public consultation feedback, the design team has prepared a concept plan for the Village Square Park playground renewal. The changes to the playground include:
Replacing the existing wood play structures with new wood play structures
Replacing the sand surface with an engineered wood fibre safety surface
Creating a sand play area with climbing rocks
Installing an asphalt tyke track around the perimeter of the playground
Adding a bench and armourstone seating walls
The new play structures will maintain the rail theme by replacing the existing train and water tower structures with similar ones. In addition, train-shaped spring toys will be installed. The design will be finalized after the project is tendered in Winter 2022. Construction is planned for Spring 2022.
Village Square Park playground consultation results
Thank you to the 66 residents who completed the survey! You told us how special Village Square Park is and how important it is that the renewed playground remain train themed.
The most requested play features were slides of different sizes to suit different ages, swings, a train and a climbing element. Residents also asked for benches, improvements to the safety of children playing next to the bike trail, shade, lighting, bike racks and landscaping.
Other suggestions, such as a splash pad, fall outside of the scope of this playground renewal project but may be considered as new projects in the future should need and budget allow.
The design team will consider all comments received during the consultation in developing the concept plan, which will be made public in Summer 2021.
