The second season of Plant Your Place! has launched
On March 2, 2026 the City of Ottawa is launching the second season of Plant Your Place!, a private land tree planting program delivered in collaboration with EnviroCentre. This program is an early action of the Tree Planting Strategy, and supports Council’s Priority: a city that is green and resilient. Plant Your Place! will double in size with approximately 2,500 trees planted in 2026 through two program streams: city-wide tree distributions for residents to plant on their property and full-service tree planting in priority neighbourhoods with low canopy cover as identified by the Tree Equity Score Analysis conducted in 2025.
City-wide Tree Distribution
The city-wide tree distribution stream will distribute approximately 2,400 trees to residents across the city. Trees will be distributed free of charge for residents to plant themselves on private property. Applications for the program will open on March 2 at 9 am for residents living in Wards that contain a priority area (Wards 7, 10, 11, 14, 16, 18 and 24). Registration opens on March 9 at 9 am for all other residents. Residents are encouraged to visit the EnviroCentre website(External link) ahead of time to learn about program details, requirements, and eligibility.
Full-Service Tree Planting
The Full-Service Tree Planting stream will provide professional site visits and tree planting at no cost for planting on private residential properties in the Priority Areas for tree planting. In 2026, there are approximately 100 trees available.
This stream is designed to reduce barriers and prioritize tree planting where it is needed most, based on the City of Ottawa’s Tree Equity Score Analysis. Professional site visits and tree planting are included to ensure the right tree is chosen for the right location, giving each tree the best chance to thrive. Eligibility and program access will be phased as follows:
- April 8, 2026: Registration opens to residents in the four Short-Term Action Areas identified through the City’s Tree Equity Analysis
- May 4, 2026: Registration opens to residents in the remaining four Priority Areas
