What We Learned

The public consultation period for Pineglen Park play structure replacement is now complete. Thanks to everyone who took the time to review the material and complete the survey. A strong majority of 21/35 people indicated their preference for play structure Option 2.

The following is a summary of items mentioned:

  • both options would benefit from shade
  • both options are underwhelming
  • sand play is a priority
  • glider/track ride is a priority
  • requested a covered picnic table
  • Option 1 - senior structure has more features and play opportunities
  • Option 2 - good layout, more accessible for varying ages and capabilities, unique and modern design
  • additional swings
  • water fountain
  • seating close to sand play area
  • basketball upgrades
  • dog park

Direction Moving Forward:

The city will proceed Option 2 with a potential edit to investigate the feasibility of changing the monkey bars in Option 2 with a track ride. Additional park amenities including covered picnic table, additional swings, water fountain and a dog park are out of scope. The city will assess the basketball court in 2024. Construction is anticipated in the summer of 2024. Project updates will be posted as they become available.

The City is looking for input on the new play equipment being proposed to replace the existing play equipment at Pineglen Park, located at 22 Brisbane Road in Ward 9. The community is invited to identify their preferred option and to provide comments on the proposed equipment.

You can download and review the two proposed play equipment options by following the link in the ‘Document Library’ (located on the panel to the right). The proposed plan has been designed to meet the City of Ottawa Accessibility Design Standards and will include the replacement of the existing sand under the play structures with engineered wood fiber safety surfacing.

Please note: this project falls under the Lifecycle Replacement program. Council has approved the budget and the scope. Therefore, upgrades and/or replacement of the other existing amenities in the park are beyond the scope of this project. Your understanding is appreciated.

Take the short survey below to share your preferred option and any additional comments. The survey will be open until November 20th, 2023.

Please be aware that the final park plan may differ from the concept being presented as a result of the public consultation responses, technical detailing, and supply and/or financial constraints.
