Consultation has concluded.

Thank you to everyone who provided their input on the play equipment replacement project for Mohawk Park. More than 70 percent of participates who completed the survey preferred the Club House Option A. The design was amended to add an additional ground-level panel and the net hammock has been replaced with a double net climber for vertical climbing to address community request for additional ground-level play and a more challenging climber.

The Lifecycle Renewal Project to replace the play equipment is to maintain level of service over time through the Strategic Asset Management Plan (2017). Adding new amenities is beyond the scope of this program. Several community requests were out-of-scope such as adding a splash pad and requesting a fenced-off dog park. Mohawk Park does not have water services within the park and due to existing amenities (mini soccer field) and existing mature trees there is limited space to add new amenities such as a splash pad or fenced-off dog area. These amenity requests have been forwarded to the Ward Councillor as a request from the community.

The location and layout of the new equipment was reviewed for the feasibility to relocate the equipment closer to Queensline Drive. Due to the existing soccer field and mature trees, there is limited space to relocate and the existing location will continue to be used for the new play structure.

Rubberized material was requested as ground cover for this project. The proposed Engineered Wood Fiber (EWF) is provided as a safety surface and is in compliance with the City’s accessible design standards and AODA. Rubberized surface is out-of-scope for this project.

The community inquired if additional community funds could contribute towards improvements to the park. The community may apply through Community Partnership Minor Capital Program for minor capital improvements to city-owned parks, recreation and cultural facilities on a cost-sharing basis with community groups. A Minor Community Partnership project would be separate from the Lifecycle Renewal Project currently proposed for Mohawk Park.

Construction may start as early as December 2023, weather and site condition dependent. Construction completion is anticipated for June 2024.

The City is looking for your feedback on a play structure replacement at Mohawk Park in Ward 8. Mohawk Park is located at 90 Queensline Drive. Updates to the playground will include:

  • A new junior play structure
  • New bay of swings including two belt swings, two junior bucket swings and an accessible swing.
  • Engineered wood fiber for the protective surfacing material to meet accessibility requirements
  • Accessible bench

The concept plans and images are in the document library on the right. Take the survey below to share your feedback.
