Metric Park - new park development

Thank you to all for your contribution and your comments on the concept plan for the new Metric Park.

Following a successful public consultation, a preference was expressed for the play concept option B.

Regarding the suggestion for a splash pad and tennis courts, these amenities (and many others) are planned for the future Fernbank District Park, located just 300 meters away from Metric Park. Unfortunately, Metric Park is too small to accommodate the suggested amenities. While waiting for the Fernbank District Park to be constructed, residents can use the nearby Rouncey, Bradley-Craig and Kristina Kiss parks that already have a splash-pad.

The Metric Park concept will now be developed into a detailed design. Details of the construction schedule will be posted once available.

The City of Ottawa is seeking your input regarding the design of a forthcoming neighbourhood park. This new park will be situated within the Trail View Subdivision (950 Terry Fox Drive) in Stittsville and is labeled as Park No. 9 in the Fernbank Community Design Plan. Despite being referred to as Metric Park, the park's official name will be determined through the Commemorative Naming process.

With about 0.84 hectares, Metric Park is planned to be located at the intersection of Metric Circle and Axel crescent. This neighbourhood park has been designed to serve as a recreational space for the community, offering both passive and active recreational opportunities.

The conceptual plan includes a mini soccer field, a playground for both junior and senior children age groups, a swing set, open play areas, as well as a gazebo. These play facilities have been thoughtfully designed to enrich the community's experience and contribute to the park's unique identity. These recreational features are linked by an asphalt walking trail with seating and shading, connected to corridor of the Ottawa-Carleton Trailway, part of the TransCanada Trail.

To ensure the park maintains a lush green environment, a diverse selection of native plants will be incorporated, aiming to achieve a minimum of 30% canopy coverage throughout the area. This contributes to the overall greenspace network within the city. The overarching goal of the neighbourhood park's design is to offer recreational and play opportunities for the community's enjoyment.

In the two concept options, the designs for the playgrounds are distinct in terms of theme and layout while providing a similar level of play value. These options showcase the proposed designs along with additional information about the planned amenities for the park.

Please note that the final park layout may differ from the presented concept. Public consultation responses, technical detailing, supply availability and financial constraints are some of the factors that may influence a change.
