The City of Ottawa and the Tanglewood Hilldale Community Association (THCA) are working together to bring a new splash pad to Medhurst Park (403 Woodfield Drive).

The location of the splash pad was based on a public consultation which looked at surrounding amenities.

Two design ideas have been created — the “Whimsy” Concept and the “Seuss” Concept — and we’d like your feedback.

Option 1: The “Whimsy” Concept

The Whimsy Concept is bright and open. It focuses on comfort and spaces for families.

Main features:

  • A new splash pad with sprays and fountains for all ages
  • A gentle grass hill (berm) for sitting, relaxing, or playing
  • Curved benches for comfortable seating near the splash pad

Option 2: The “Seuss” Concept

The Seuss Concept is playful and creative, inspired by the fun shapes and colours of Dr. Seuss’s stories.

Main features:

  • A colourful splash pad with themed spray features like the Tulip, Parasol, and Fun-Brella
  • Decorative and accessible benches, some built into the grass hill
  • A shaped berm that adds height and visual interest

This design is lively, imaginative, and playful.

What Both Designs Have in Common:

Both plans include:

  • Smooth paths for strollers and persons with mobility needs
  • Seating areas for families and caregivers
  • Trees and planting for shade

Your feedback will help us choose a final design that best fits the Tanglewood community.

After the survey, the project team will review all feedback and prepare a final plan for detailed design and future construction.

Please be aware that the final park plan may differ from the concept being presented as a result of the public consultation responses, technical detailing, and material supply and/ or financial constraints.
