The consultation statistics show that 245 participants looked at the project website, and 126 individuals provided responses to the survey. Two options were provided for the proposed play equipment. 105 of the 126 participants (85%) preferred Option 2. The following is a summary of items mentioned:

  • likes the bright colours with Option 2
  • most prefer saucer swing
  • option 2 provides variety for kids of various ages
  • likes the triple slide with Option 2
  • likes teeter totter
  • prefer a larger sand play area as there are many toddlers
  • shade is important
  • prefer rubber surface for an accessible surface
  • adult fitness equipment
  • monkey bars are high, prefer existing monkey bars
  • did not like either option, both options are underwhelming and provide little play value
  • more accessible features should be added
  • limited play opportunities for older kids
  • water play area
  • bike repair tool kit
  • concern with enclosed spaces, hiding spots

Direction Moving Forward

The consultant has been requested to proceed with Option 2 with potential edits as noted in the comments below:

  • investigate adding a larger sand play area, additional accessible play element and an additional bench

Additional Park amenities, such as rubber surfacing, a splash pad, adult fitness equipment and bike repair tool kit are out of scope for the current project.

The City is looking for input on the new play equipment being proposed to replace the existing play equipment at Meadowbreeze Park, located at 98 Meadowbreeze Drive in Ward 23. The community is invited to identify their preferred option and to provide comments on the proposed equipment.

You can download and review the two proposed play equipment options by following the link in the ‘Document Library’ (located on the panel to the right). The proposed plan has been designed to meet the City of Ottawa Accessibility Design Standards and will include the replacement of the existing sand under the play structures with engineered wood fiber safety surfacing.

Please note: this project falls under the Lifecycle Replacement program. Council has approved the budget and the scope. Therefore, upgrades and/or replacement of the other existing amenities in the park are beyond the scope of this project. Your understanding is appreciated.

Take the short survey below to share your preferred option and any additional comments. The survey will be open until November 1st, 2023.

Please be aware that the final park plan may differ from the concept being presented as a result of the public consultation responses, technical detailing, and supply and/or financial constraints.
