What We Heard
An online survey regarding the Lindenlea Community Centre Backyard Upgrade concept was conducted on Engage Ottawa from 18 August to 1 September 2023. Thank you to everyone that provided their input on the concept plan. Out of the 11 of the respondents, the majority supported the proposed upgrade. A summary of the comments and responses is provided below:
Request to eliminate fencing is not feasible as the space is required to meet current safety standards.
This community partnership project is specific to adding an accessible route leading into a programmable space in the backyard. Other amenities, such as patio lighting, a bottle filling station, seating, or paving the parking lot are not within the scope of this project.
Request for costs associated with the project to be published. The overall project budget is reported through the annual budget process. A cost breakdown can be provided to the community association following completion of the public tender process.
Existing tree canopy will be pruned to promote healthy growth and will continue to provide valuable shade to the backyard area.
Request to add a mural on the wall of the community center leading into the back yard could be submitted to the Mural Program but is not within scope of the current improvements.
Comment on the permeability of paving stones in the current climate crisis where heavy rain showers are more frequent. Interlock pavers are considered more permeable than asphalt as water can infiltrate through the joints. The design also includes numerous garden areas to catch the runoff from the interlock area.
Comments on costs and funding associated with the project. Funding for the community partnership programs is approved annually through the City’s Budget. Projects are approved in accordance with the funding prioritization outlined in the program guidelines.
Following the completion of the public tender process, an update regarding the construction timeline will be posted to engage Ottawa.
