Background and Context
The City’s Transportation Master Plan (TMP) outlines a list of active transportation projects that will be implemented to address missing links or opportunities for expansion of the network. This list of projects was developed based on public consultation, Councillor input, and a city-wide network review. One of the priority projects within the TMP includes a multi-use pathway connecting the Findlay Creek community to the Leitrim Light Rail Transit (LRT) station via Quinn Road.
The Findlay Creek community and Leitrim Station are bisected by Albion Road, an arterial road with a speed limit of 80km/h. There is currently no desirable active transportation connection to Leitrim Station from Findlay Creek.
Project Details
This project proposes a 500-meter, 3-meter wide, multi-use path from Findlay Creek to Quinn Road. The project includes a signalized crossing of Albion Road.
What?
New multi-use path on the east side of Albion Road behind the ditch, starting at existing path connecting to Bunchberry Way.
New mid-block pedestrian signal 100m south of Quinn Road, with a multi-use path continuing on the west side of Albion Road until Quinn Road.
Painted sharrows along Quinn Road designating mixed traffic conditions.
Where?
Albion Road, from connection at Bunchberry Way to Quinn Road.
Quinn Road, from Albion Road to cul-de-sac with multi-use path connection to Leitrim Station.
Why?
Improve access to Leitrim LRT Station for pedestrians and cyclists.
Create multi-modal options for residents of Findlay Creek.
Improve safety and connectivity of cycling network.
Please join staff in-person at Fred Barrett Arena in the Lion's Hall for a public open house on March 10 from 6:30-8pm.
