The City is looking for your feedback on the proposed plan for a new dog park in Ward 3 (Barrhaven South). The new park, which is approximately 0.67 hectares in area, is generally located south-west of Strandherd Drive, and just north of the Gregory Casey Storm Water Pond.

When reviewing the proposed location and design for the new dog park, it is important to be aware of the future pedestrian, cycling, and vehicular access that will be available (but is not currently built). A 3-season gravel parking lot will be available with access from Borrisokane Road; it will not be available during the winter months. A paved multi-use pathway is also anticipated to lead from the existing parking lot at the Clarke Fields Park BMX facility, under the new Strandherd Drive bridge, and connecting to the existing recreation path around the storm pond. This path will also provide access to the proposed dog park. Please see the attached plan which demonstrates the future access possibilities.

The proposed dog park is currently designed to include:

  • A main entrance enclosure to allow for secure leashing and un-leashing
  • a large, in-ground waste receptacle, and
  • separate entrances to two distinct areas: a small-dog park, and a large-dog park.

Additionally, both the large and small dog areas are proposed to include:

  • an area of gravel surfacing (decomposed granite) as well as a grassed area
  • an accessible, asphalt path
  • metal ‘pee posts’
  • benches, and
  • proposed and/or existing trees.

You can download and review the Gregory Casey Dog Park Concept Plan and the Pedestrian, Cycling, and Vehicular Access Plan in the Document Library on the right.
