Donald B. Munro Sidewalk

Policy context
The City’s Transportation Master Plan includes a list of projects that will be implemented to address missing links or opportunities for expansion in the active transportation network. This list was developed based on public consultation, Councillor input and a city-wide network review. The Council-approved list was published in 2023 and later updated in 2025 to identify projects of priority. Donald B. Munro is one of these priority projects.
This project aligns with the City’s goals of improving pedestrian safety and accessibility.
Local context
Donald B. Munro Drive is a collector road, which means that it connects communities as well as the local and arterial road network. The project area (Donald B. Munro Drive from The West Carleton Residence to the western driveway of Falldown Lane) is adjacent to a railway crossing, older adult residences, Ottawa Fire Station 64, and other retail and commercial uses.
Currently, no sidewalk exists on Donald B. Munro Drive south of the railway crossing. However, sidewalks exist north of the crossing.
Project details
To improve pedestrian safety and accessibility, the City is proposing the following:
A 1.8-metre-wide sidewalk on the west side of Donald B. Munro Drive from The West Carleton Residence to the western driveway of Falldown Lane.
A 2.5-metre-wide crosswalk along the western driveway of Falldown Lane to connect the proposed and existing sidewalks.
An extension of the existing curb and sidewalk on the north side of the intersection of Donald B. Munro Drive and Falldown Lane.
Additional changes and impacts have been identified below:
A reduction in the width of Donald B. Munro Drive north of the railway crossing to 7 metres to 7.7 metres.
Impacts to two residential driveways (490 and 494 Donald B. Munro Drive), one field access, and one walkway (490 Donald B. Munro Drive) from sidewalk construction. These will be reinstated afterwards.
