May 2025 Update

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on the proposed fenced off-leash dog park for the Village of Richmond. We heard from many of you, and most were in strong support of the park. Over the three-week engagement period, the Engage Ottawa project page was visited nearly 700 times with 42 comments submitted online. The City was seeking general feedback on the proposed facility and concept plan. You told us this kind of space is much needed, especially with so many dogs and dog owners in the area. We have reviewed all the comments and suggestions provided. The feedback received is summarized in the "What We Learned Report".

April 2025

The City of Ottawa is looking for your feedback on a planned fenced off-leash dog area to be constructed in the Village of Richmond, Ward 21. This will be a three-season, non-lit, fenced-in dog area. The Concept Plan features a parking lot, a large waste receptacle, leashing area, benches, tree plantings and several cedar “pee posts”.

The proposed site is south of Perth Street and east of the new traffic circle at Perth and Meynell Street. The location of the dog area is within a floodplain regulated by the Rideau Valley Conservation Authority (RVCA). The dog area is being carefully designed to achieve the necessary permits from the RVCA.

The unique site offers opportunity for a spacious fenced dog- run within the Village. Given the floodplain status, residents should expect the facility will be closed in the event of seasonal flooding. Furthermore, winter use of the site is not recommended and the site will not be winter maintained. Servicing is not available, thus lighting and water fountain are outside the scope of the project.

Feedback on the project is requested through the below survey until April 24th 2025. Please note that details of the dog area are subject to change as a result of technical and RVCA permit considerations, or the feedback received through this survey.

The construction schedule for the facility is still to be determined.
