Project Completed - new splash pad open May 2023
Consultation has concluded
Thank you to everyone who provided their input on the splash pad design for Chapel Hill Park. We heard from 85 residents through the Engage Ottawa survey and the on-site public consultation held in the fall at the park. More than 80 percent of you preferred the Rainbow option for the variety of spray elements it provides. The design team considered residents suggestion for additional benches and trees and these will be considered if budget permits.
Additional comments were received regarding the new location of the splash pad. It was determined that due to the existing mature trees, a new splash pad in the existing location would impact the existing mature tree roots. Please note, the existing puddle rink location remains available to the community. The relocation of the splash pad will increase the play value of the amenity in Chapel Hill Park and will also meet current City standards for accessibility.
Requested upgrades to amenities in this park included replacing the drinking water fountain and adding washroom facilities. Both these requests are out of scope for this project and will not be included. Typically, permanent washroom facilities are associated with larger district parks or a community building in a City Park.
The proposed splash pad construction is anticipated for fall 2022. The majority of the park will remain open during construction. Councillor Dudas and the community will continue to receive updates on this project.
Thank you for participating in the survey!
Overview
The City is looking for feedback on the replacement of the spray post with a new splash pad at Chapel Hill Park, located at 1556 Forest Valley Drive.
The existing spray post area is quite small and surrounded by mature trees making it difficult to located a new splash pad without significant impacts to the mature trees. The proposed splash pad has been relocated closer to existing water and hydro services in an open area east of the baseball field in order to accommodate a larger splash pad. The design layout has integrated the splash pad with the new covered seating area being installed at Chapel Hill Park. A new picnic table will be placed in the location of the former spray post. The proposed splash pad concept plan and images are in the document library on the right. Please share your feedback below.
