Two design options are proposed for new seating and picnic areas at Champlain Park. Both options improve accessibility and provide comfortable places for people to rest, meet, and enjoy the park. Public feedback will help determine the preferred option and design features.

What Is the Same in Both Options

Both design options include:

  • New seating and picnic areas
  • Accessible walkways connecting to the field house and sidewalks
  • Accessible picnic tables with permanent shade umbrellas
  • Seating placed on concrete pads designed for wheelchair access
  • Protection of existing trees, lighting, and green space
  • Similar furniture styles and materials
  • Integration with the winter outdoor rink and Kichi Zìbì cross country winter trail

Option A: Separate Seating and Picnic Areas

  • Seating and picnic areas are located in separate spaces
  • Includes a curved bench and lounge seating
  • Picnic tables are placed in two different locations
  • Some fencing and a bike rack are removed to allow for new paths and seating
  • Creates multiple smaller gathering areas

Option B: Combined Seating and Picnic Area

  • Includes several lounge chairs, including one accessible lounger
  • Most existing fencing and the bike rack remain

Have Your Say

Please review both design concepts and complete the short survey.

After the survey, the project team will review all feedback and prepare a final plan for detailed design and future construction.

Please be aware that the final park plan may differ from the concept being presented as a result of the public consultation responses, technical detailing, and material supply and/ or financial constraints.
