Centrepointe Park - new inclusive and accessible swing
What we have heard
Thank you to everyone who provided their input on the new inclusive accessible swing for Centrepointe Park.
Based on the feedback we received from you, we have relocated the new playground as near as possible to the current play amenities. This will provide a better play cohesiveness. You can access the final concept plan and images of the new inclusive-accessible playground in the Document Library on the right side of the page.
The new playground construction is expected to begin in 2024.

The City of Ottawa is looking for your feedback on the installation of a new inclusive and accessible swing for the Centrepointe Park, in ward 8 College.
The new swing playground is intended to provide an accessible and inclusive recreational opportunity in addition to the existing swings, playgrounds, splashpad and other existing amenities. The play equipment is to be located in the West, along the North asphalt path. The parc has a parking lot.
The playground layout includes an accessible asphalt path with a resting area and a bench, a deck, a swing, an engineered wood fiber area, and is surrounded by a lawn with trees. The play area, for children 2 years old and up, has room for several children to sit and/or stand and enjoy the experience. All on board work collaboratively to make the swing move. The handlebars also help moving the swing. Players use their skills and balance.

The concept shows the proposed designs and gives more information on the accessible play equipment. Please be aware that the final concept plan may differ from the concept being presented due to public consultation responses, technical detailing, supply and/or financial constraints. In terms of timelines, we envision the project implementation in 2024, play equipment supply allowing.

Great idea but I do agree with another poster that it should avoid crossing the bike path out of safety concerns. Many commuters use it to make it to baseline station or to go from the neighourhood to SRB high school/Knoxdale Public School/Bell High School
I wish it were in the main park! Were disabled kids consulted and asked what they like best? Since they are the ones it is designed for
Looks like a decent spot! …except that it will be right off the main bike path, which means kids on the bike path. Some cyclists use this path for commuting, so I’m worried there could be possible accidents, or disgruntled cyclist and terrified parents.
I’m also concerned it’s a bit removed from the main play area, doesn’t really feel “inclusive”.

My family and I are big users of Centrepointe Park as we live in the neighbourhood. The addition of new equipment that is inclusive and accessible is a wonderful idea and will just add to the many great things this park has to offer.
Love the addition of accessible equipment to Centrepointe Park. I have one concern and that is with the placement on the opposite side of the bike path from the rest of structures, splash pad and washrooms. This will create a lot of back and forth across the path and could create problems with bike traffic. Is there a way to install the swing on the same side as the other amenities or to add a bike path route that goes around the amenities instead of through them.
A good addition to the array of recreational opportunities in Centrepointe Park. Close to the parking lot, existing play structure, swings, and water park.
