History of the Site

The Billings family settled on this site in 1812, as part of the early colonial settlement of what is now Ottawa. Over five generations, the family and their descendants played a role in the development of the local community. Their story is one of many stories that make up the history of this place, which has been shaped by Indigenous peoples, settlers, and generations of Ottawa residents.

Today, Billings Estate includes historic buildings and grounds, a historic cemetery, and collections that offer opportunities to explore stories and perspectives connected to the site.
