September 13, 2023:
Thank you to everyone who participated in the initial Andy Shields Park – Fenced Off-leash Dog Area public consultation.
The consultation statistics show that 251 participants viewed the project website, and of those, 55 individuals provided their initial comments.
In general, the project was well received as needed in the area though some questions were raised about the location in the park and the amenities that it may include. A new concept plan has been added to the ‘Document Library’ for further comments and feedback.
The proposed location was selected based on access to parking, flood plain restrictions in Andy Shields Park, dog park facility standards, accessibility and to avoid conflicts with other park amenities.
The concept plan shows the following amenities that will be added with the dog park:
Benches
Accessible picnic table
Coniferous and deciduous trees
Dog waste receptacle
Leashing area
Crushed granite pavement area
Cedar ‘pee posts’
Signage
An update regarding the construction timeline will be posted to Engage Ottawa following the public tender process.
The City is looking for your feedback on a new fenced off-leash dog area to be constructed in Andy Shields Park at 1448 Meadow Drive in Ward 20 - Osgoode.
Concept plans and images will be added to the document library on the right when they have been completed.
Please share your initial comments below.
