Located within the Glebe Annex neighbourhood, fronting onto Lebreton Street South, the park block is 0.14 hectare/0.35 acre in size and once constructed, will contribute to the overall community’s recreational green spaces. The park plan is envisioned to provide a high-level vision as to how the park space will be designed and used, with an intended desire for clear views to the open space, universal accessibility, active and passive uses, spaces for seating and play, and a target percentage tree canopy.

Since 2017, Canada Lands Company CLC Limited (CLC) has been redeveloping 299 (291) Carling Avenue through a joint venture partnership with the Algonquins of Ontario (AOO). The partnership provides mutually beneficial opportunities throughout the development of the site including opportunities for commemoration in connection with the history of the Algonquin people.

Following municipal approvals of a zoning by-law amendment that established land use areas, permitted and non-permitted uses, maximum building heights, and setbacks for the property outlined in a demonstration concept plan, commitments by CLC and the AOO include the design and construction of the public park. In 2022, CLC and the AOO completed virtual public engagement to support the development of a preliminary park design concept which included outreach within the AOO. To follow the community engagement program completed by CLC and Capital Ward Councillor, the City’s Parks and Facilities Planning group is requesting feedback on the park design.

Recognition and integration of Algonquin culture and values are integral to the public realm and park lands at 299 Carling Avenue. CLC and the AOO will continue to work together to shape the park’s design and to celebrate Algonquin heritage.
